The Power System Efficiency Improvement project (Loan 2769-BAN) with Ordinary capital
resources (OCR) of $300million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aims to increase the
provision of better access to electricity through improvement of energy efficiency improvement,
dissemination of renewable energy technology and capacity development of executing agencies
and communities. The project is categorized as effective gender mainstreaming (EGM). This
project is also aligned with GOB’s commitment to integrate gender and social consideration in the
energy sector. The project has developed a gender action plan with gender design features
include (i) increasing women’s participation in energy-related employment and energy-based
livelihood opportunities; (ii) providing technical training for women; (iii) a gender-sensitive user
education program and module to improve household energy efficiency and safety; and (iv) the
provision of improved household energy efficiency, reduce women’s time burden, and improve
women’s health at selected project sites.
