Purchase of MECP2 knock out Rett Syndrome model
MECP2 knock out Rett Syndrome model is well studied and have been shown to recapitulate the human condition. Mutant male mice have a more severe phenotype (no functional protein) with hypoactivity, abnormalities in locomotion, and cognitive deficits. Female mutants have variable expression of the functional protein translating in less severe phenotype. They exhibit stereotypies, locomotion, and cognitive deficits similar to the human condition. Brain volume reduction in amygdala, hippocampus and striatum are seen in both sexes. The onset of phenotype expression in this model is between 5-6 weeks of age. This timeline is for classic female mutants. Male mutants die around 10 weeks of life, which means we will adjust the timing of stimulation and testing batteries accordingly.
